Health Insurance Guide > What is a deductible? What is a deductible? This is a dollar amount that your health insurance organization may require you pay out-of-pocket for covered expenses every year before your health plan commences to make payments for claims. Not all plans come with a deductible. Although there are many exceptions, HMO plans don't usually require a deductible, but most PPO and Indemnity plans do require it. Health insurance organizations use the term co-insurance to address the percentage amount of the covered expenses you're required to pay for a medical claim, excluded from any co-payments or deductible. |
